Lively New 321CC Inline Twin Cylinder Engine

Powering the new R3 is latest R-series technology. The result is an inline twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 321cc, DOHC 4-valve engine with strong performance across the range. Featuring a bore and stroke of 68.0 x 44.1mm and a compression ratio of 11.2:1, this compact engine develops 30.9kW or 42PS at 10,750 rpm, with maximum torque of 29.6Nm/3.0 kg-m at 9,000rpm for a thrilling ride.

10-Spoke Cast Wheels with ABS

Featuring thin cast spokes that complement the light and sleek image, the 17-inch wheels are fitted with a 110/70-17 front tyre and a wide 140/70-17 rear tyre. For powerful and progressive braking performance the YZF-R3 benefits from a large diameter 298mm floating front disc and a 220mm rear disc. For added control, Anti-Lock Braking is fitted as standard equipment raising confidence levels even further.

The angular aerodynamic bodywork has distinctive R-series inspired lines, and the reverse slant dual headlights – as well as the short muffler and sharp up-swept tail – are all strongly influenced by the look of our World Championship winning R6.

A trick multi-function instrument panel includes an analogue tachometer and digital speedometer – and to underline its strong R-series heritage the R3’s instruments feature a shift timing indicator lamp similar to the design used on the YZF-R1. There’s also a gear position indicator, fuel gauge, water temperature gauge as well as fuel economy information, clock, trip-meters and more. All of course wrapped into an impressive liquid-crystal-type display.

The R3 benefits from sophisticated R-series technology such as a light and compact direct-drive camshaft for efficient performance; lightweight forged pistons to reduce reciprocating weight by 10%; lightweight aluminium DiaSil cylinders with 20% silicon content for a highly friction-resistant microstructure; offset cylinders and a 180-degree crank with optimum inertial mass, while a primary balancer is adopted to reduce vibration and mechanical noise.
